Wanda Poltawska Short Bio
She was a Author, Holocaust Survivor, Physician. A member of the Polish resistance organization during World War II, she was seized by the Nazis at the age of nineteen and taken to Ravensbruck Concentration Camp, where she endured unspeakable horrors of which included various gruesome and inhumane experimentations.
Her powerful memoir “And I Am Afraid of My Dreams” which recounted those experiences was published in 1987. She went on to receive her doctorate in Psychiatry from Jagiellonian University in Poland.
During the course of her career, she worked with children who survived the Holocaust and her methods were considered innovative in the field of Psychiatry.
She gained worldwide attention for her longtime friendship with Pope John Paul II, who she met during the 1950s and remained in contact with until the Pope’s death in 2005. In 1962, Poltawska was diagnosed with a terminal malignancy. Wanda Poltawska (1921-2023) Find a Grave Memorial JOIN TELEGRAM
She asked for then Priest Karol Wojtyla to pray for her. She became cancer free which was one of the basis of miracles which led to the canonization of Pope John Paul II.
