Vic Fazio was an American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for California from 1979 to 1999. He served in the United States House of Representatives from both the 4th and 3rd Districts of California from January 3, 1979 to January 3, 1999.
He earned his B.A. from Union College in Schenectady, New York in 1965 and later did graduate work at California State University in Sacramento, California from 1969 to 1972. From 1966 to 1975, he was a congressional and legislative consultant and also served on several county commissions in the Sacramento area. He went on to serve in the California State Assembly from 1975 to 1978. In 1978, he, as a Democrat, ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives and was successful in the November general election.

He went on to serve ten terms before stepping down in 1999, During his tenure in the House, he served as both the Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. After leaving the House, he continued to be involved in various aspects of both the business and political arenas.
After a marriage to Joella Mason that ended in divorce, Fazio was married to Judy Neidhardt Kern from 1983 until her death in 2015, aged 71. He then married Kathy Sawyer, a retired journalist, in 2017. He had two daughters, Dana and Anne; Anne died from complications of leukemia in 1995.
Fazio died of melanoma at his home in Arlington County, Virginia, on March 16, 2022, at the age of 79.
