She was best known to British television viewers both for her roles as Alf Garnett’s exasperated daughter Rita on the series “Till Death Us Do Part” from 1966 to 1975 and as Mrs. Hudson on the series “Sherlock” from 2010 to 2017.
She was the “cover girl” for Rowntree’s Dairy Box chocolates from 1958 to 1959. In 1958, she made her television debut on the series “Rush Hour.
” Besides “Till Death Us Do Part” and “Sherlock,” she went on to appear in such series as “Worzel Gummidge,” “Worzel Gummidge Down Under,” “Tricky Business,” “The Worst Witch,” “EastEnders,” and “Midsomer Murders.”
She made her “big screen” debut in the 1963 musical film “Summer Holiday.” Her other career film credits would include “Swingers’ Paradise,” (1964) “Till Death Us Do Part,” (1968) “Bedtime with Rosie,” (1975) and “Angel.” (2007)
