Graduated in philosophy in 1940 with a thesis was on the aesthetics of Benedetto Croce, he came to journalism during the Second World War, directing a clandestine newspaper of the Liberal Party in Florence. As unemployed, he was hired by Ansa in September 1960 and first appointed deputy director in January 1961 and then, a year later, director, headed the agency for nearly 30 years until 1990.
