For eight seasons (1960 to 1967), he played at the place-kicker, linebacker and center positions in the National and American Football Leagues with the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos.
Born Roger Alvin LeClerc, he attended Agawam High School in Massachusetts and played collegiate football at Trinity College. Selected by the Chicago Bears during the 15th round of the 1959 NFL Draft, he totaled 104 career regular season games.
He experienced a world championship with the 1963 NFL Title winning Chicago Bears. After retiring from football, he taught Algebra. He returned to the football field in 1982 to serve as head coach at Westfield State University.
