For sixteen seasons (1991 to 1997 and 1999 to 2007), he was a left-handed pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, Montreal Expos, Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds.
Born Rheal Paul Cormier, he attended Polyvalente Louis J. Robichaud High School in Canada and later played collegiate baseball at the Community College of Rhode Island.
Selected by the St. Louis Cardinals during the 6th round of the 1988 Amateur Draft, he made his Major League debut on August 15, 1991. In 1992 while with the Cardinals, he produced a career-high ten wins and 186 innings-pitched.
In 2003 while with the Phillies, he achieved an 8-0 record with a highly-impressive 1.70 ERA in 65 games-pitched. In 683 career regular season games, he compiled a 71 win, 64 loss record with a lifetime 4.03 ERA, in 1,221 innings-pitched. He was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012. He died from cancer.
