Singer
The younger brother of Dolly Parton, Stella Parton and Rachel Dennison, he had several songs that made the Top 40 on the Country charts in the early 1980s. His singles “Hold Me Like You Never Had Me” and Shot Full of Love” both made it to number 30 in 1981; while his singles “Don’t Cry Baby,” “Oh, No” and “A Stranger in Her Bed” all made the Top 100.
His last performance was with Dolly on the duet “You Are My Christmas,” featuring his daughter Heidi on Dolly’s 2020 Christmas album “A Holly Dolly Christmas.” He had a cameo in the 1984 movie “Rhinestone,” starring Dolly with Sylvester Stallone, where he performed the song, “Too Much Water.”
For many years he played guitar and bass in Dolly’s band, and he was featured in his own show at “Dollywood” in Sevierville, Tennessee, since it opened in 1986. He passed away after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 67.
