Peg Murray (1924-2020)

During an extensive career on the Broadway stage, she will be remembered for her originating the part of ‘Fraulein Kost’ in the hit production “Cabaret” (1966 to 1969) which earned her a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Born Margaret Murray, she was raised in New York and began her career in entertainment at the age of three when she performed on a local radio program.

During her high school years, she performed in stage productions and received a scholarship in Theatre which led to her enrollment at Case Western Reserve University. During World War II, she performed overseas for American troops and following her return home, she spent the next decade as a member of a traveling company.

In 1956, she made her Broadway debut in the production “The Great Sebastians” and followed this with the hit “Gypsy” (1959 to 1961) which starred Ethel Merman. During the early 1960s, she began her association with television and had appeared on the programs “Armchair Circle Theatre”,

“The Naked City” and had her first recurring role as ‘Miss Stewart’ in the series “The Doctors and the Nurses” (1962 to 1964). He will perhaps be remembered by TV audiences for playing ‘Ethel “Mrs. C.” Conklin’ in the series “Me & Mrs. C.” (1986 to 1987) and as ‘Olga Swenson’ in the daytime soap opera “All My Children” (1983 to 1996).
