For comedian Richard Pryor, Mooney was the head writer on ‘The Richard Pryor Show,’ and co-wrote some of Pryor’s material on several of his comedy albums and television sketches.
Mooney also wrote for television shows such as ‘Sanford and Son,’ ‘Good Times,’ ‘In Living Color,’ ‘The Larry Sanders Show,’ ‘Chappelle’s Show’ and the reality TV parody show ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood.’ Among films he appeared in were ‘The Buddy Holly Story’ (1978), ‘Bustin’ Loose’ (1981), ‘Hollywood Shuffle’ (1987), ‘In the Army Now’ (1994), ‘Bamboozled’ (2000), ‘The Ketchup King’ (2002) and ‘Meet the Blacks’ (2016).
