She was best known for co-writing, along with husband Ed Bruce, the hit country song “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.”
In 1964, she married Ed Bruce, a car salesman who was trying to break in to the music industry. Two years later, she became his manager and later started collaborating with him in songwriting.
In 1975, she, along with her husband, co-wrote the song “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys, which would be taken to number one on the country charts by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson in 1978. They, along with Bobby Borchers, also co-wrote the song “Texas (When I Die),” which became a top five hit for Tanya Tucker.
Her husband and her later ran a casting agency in Nashville and she was a casting director for both the television show “Maverick” and the film “Urban Cowboy.” She divorced from her husband in 1986 and later ran several businesses. She also served on the Tennessee State Board of Probation and Parole from 2004 to 2014.
