He earned numerous Emmy Awards and will be remembered for his association with several popular TV gameshows. Raised on Coney Island, his father was the proprietor of a restaurant. Mike served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and following his return home, he began his career as a director with the staff at WNBC in New York City. His break in the industry happened when he was chosen to cover an event in Moscow.
On July 24, 1959 the result would be his directing on television of what became known as the “Kitchen Debate” between then-US Vice President Richard M. Nixon and Soviet Union First Secretary Nikita Khrushchev. This experience led to his joining CBS and a lengthly association with several popular TV games shows beginning with “To Tell the Truth” (1962).

He went on to become regular director for “Password” (1962 to 1967), the original run of “The Match Game” (1963), “The $10,000 Pyramid” (1973 to 1980) and “The $25,000 Pyramid” (1974 to 1981).
During the course of his career, he was the recipient of seven Emmy Award for gameshows, in addition to children’s programs, the CBS All American Thanksgiving Day Parade and the CBS Tournament of Roses Parade. In 2015, he received a special Lifetime Achievement Emmy from the National Television Academy of Arts and Sciences.
