Actor. A long time theater actor who appeared in over twenty motion pictures, his best known role was that of Civil War soldier “Sergeant Buster Kilrain” in the movies “Gettysburg” (1993) and “Gods and Generals” (2003). His theater acting credits include “The Plough and the Stars”, “Of Mice and Men”, “The Elephant Man” and “When You Comin’ Back, Red Ryder?”, for which he was awarded the Drama Desk Award in 1974. His small, unaccredited part of “Crum Petree”, the mailman in the 1988 comedy “Funny Farm” brought him cult status.

His role in 1993’s “Gettysburg” brought him critical acclaim. He made numerous television series appearances, most notably on the science fiction series “Star Trek” The Next Generation” and in three different guest roles in the crime and courtroom drama “Law and Order” franchise. He also lent his voice to a number of television documentaries, including documentarian Ken Burns’ 2009 series “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea”. He died in New York City, New York in February 2020 at the age of seventy seven.
