Professional Hockey Coach. He will be remembered for guiding the 1989-1990 Edmonton Oilers to the Stanley Cup Title. For more than a decade, he played as a defenseman in the Eastern Hockey League before beginning his lengthy coaching career, initially with the New York Rovers in 1959.

After a stint with the New York Rangers organization, he served as head coach of the Minnesota North Stars during the 1968-1969 season. He went on to serve with the Vancouver Canucks before joining the Edmonton Oilers in 1981 and as an assistant to Glen Sather, he experienced four Stanley Cup Titles (1984, 1985, 1987 and 1988) with the dynasty team which included Wayne Gretzky,

Mark Messier, Glenn Anderson and Paul Coffey. He succeeded Sather as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers (1989 to 1991) and led them to the Stanley Cup Title in 1990. He went on to serve as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres (1991 to 1995) and New York Rangers (1997 to 2000). He worked for the Ottawa Senators and Phoenix Coyotes organizations before retiring.
