Gary Moeller American Football Coach
He was best known as the head coach of the University of Michigan Wolverines football team from 1990 to 1994, He also served as the head coach of the National Football League’s Detroit Lions in 2000. He played football collegiately at Ohio State University from 1961 to 1963, playing both the linebacker and center positions.
After graduating from college, he went into the coaching side of football and served as an assistant at both Miami (Ohio) Univeristy and the University of Miichigan from 1967 to 1976. In 1977, he became the head coach at the University of Illinois and served in this position for three years before he was let go in 1979.

He returned to Michigan and remained as as an assistant until 1990, when he took over as the Wolverines’ head coach following the retirement of long time coach Bo Schembechler. He coached the Wolverines for five seasons before he was let go by the university in 1995.
During his tenure with the Wolverines, he led the team to 3 Big Ten titles and two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year. He went on to become an assistant for several National Football League teams for the remainder of his career.
In 1990, he took over as head coach of the Detroit Lions for the last seven games of the season. His career record was 50-37-6 in college and 4-3 in the NFL.
