For seven seasons (1973 to 1976 and 1978 to 1981), he played at the goaltender position in the National Hockey League with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals.
He played collegiate hockey at McMaster University, prior to being signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins as an amateur free agent in 1973. He produced a career-high24 wins with Pittsburgh during the 1974-1975 season.

While with Philadelphia, he served as a backup to Bernie Parent and experienced a run at the Stanley Cup with the Flyers’ team which reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1976.
After playing for parts of two seasons (1977 to 1978), with the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association, he returned to the NHL and played three seasons with the Washington Capitals (1979 to 1981). In 162 career regular season NHL games, he compiled a 58 win, 61 loss, 27 tie record.
After retiring as a player, he served as a Minor League coach with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. He went on to serve as a teacher and guidance counselor at Barrie North Collegiate Institute. He died following a lengthy battle with dementia.
