He was best known to television viewers for his recurring role as J.D. Shackelford, the boyfriend of Annie Potts’ Mary Jo Shively on the popular CBS series “Designing Women” from 1986 to 1991. He attended the prestigious Goodman School of Drama in Chicago and played Jesus in “Godspell” for a year opposite Joe Mantegna as Judas before coming to Los Angeles.
He went to perform on stage in various places including Los Angeles and off-Broadway. In 1974, he made his acting debut on the “small screen” in the television movie “Unwed Father.”
Besides “Designing Women,” he would go on to appear in such television series as “McMillan and Wife,” “Operation Petticoat,” “Just Our Luck,” “Love Boat,” “Thirtysomething,” “Matlock,” “Party of Five,” and “Desperate Housewives.” He made his “big screen” debut a year later in the 1975 film “Bug.” He went on to appear in such films as “The White Buffalo,” (1977) “Airplane II: The Sequel,” (1982) “Escape,” (1990) and “Star Kid” (1997).
