He played the safety position for both the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals from 1971 to 1978. Born James Michael Sensibaugh, he played football collegiately at Ohio State University.
As a Buckeye, he played on two National Championship teams (1968, 1970) and was an All-American in 1970. He also holds both the Buckeyes’ career and season records for interceptions. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the eighth round of the 1971 National Football League draft and played for them for the next five years before joining the St. Louis Cardinals in 1976.
While with the Chiefs, he was second in the NFL with eight interceptions during the 1972 season. He played for the Cardinals for the next three seasons before retiring after the 1978 season.
During his pro career, he had 27 interceptions and 12 fumble recoveries in 92 games. He was later honored with both induction into the Ohio State Varsity O Hall of Fame in 1997 and naming to the Ohio State Football All-Century Team.
