American football player
For five seasons (1969 to 1973), he played at the running back and safety positions in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.
Born Marvin Leroy Keyes, he made his initial impression on the football field during his years at George Washington Carver High School in Virginia. He enrolled at Purdue University where he played collegiate football at the tailback and defensive back positions.
While with the Boilermakers, he achieved All-American honors twice and was a main contributor to Purdue’s capturing of the Rose Bowl title (January 1967) against USC. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles as the number three pick during the first-round of the 1969 NFL Draft, he totaled 48 career regular season games. After retiring from football, he worked for the Philadelphia School District.
He was inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame in 1990. He served as a running backs coach at Purdue during the 1990s.
