A guitarist, he will be remembered for his tenure with the 1960s British rock ensemble “The Animals.”
Born Hilton Stewart Paterson Valentine, he was influenced by Skiffle music which took hold of England during the 1950s which resulted in his learning to play the guitar.
He played in a group called “The Heppers”, later known as “The Wildcats”, and was recruited by bass player Bryan ‘Chas’ Chandler to form “The Animals.”
He was a member during the group’s commercial success from the hits “The House Of The Rising Sun” (1964), “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” (1964), “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place” (1965) and “Don’t Bring Me Down” (1966), until their breakout in 1966. He went on to record the solo album “All In Your Head” (1970) and continued to perform into the 2000s. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of “The Animals” in 1994.
