Watergate Figure, Talk Show Host, Actor. He was best known, along with E. Howard Hunt, as one of the indviduals who organized and directed the break-in of the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate building in 1972.

After graduating from Fordham University in 1952, he spent two years in the Army as an artillery officer, but was exempted from service in Korea for a medical reason. He returned to Fordham to study law, completed his degree and joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1957.

He remained with the F.B.I. for the next five years before leaving in 1962 to pursue a law career. Three years later, he became an assistant district attorney in Poughkeepsie, New York.

In 1968, he ran the Nixon-Agnew campaign in Dutchess County, New York and went to work as an special assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury in January of 1969. In 1971, after working in several other positions in the Nixon Adminstration, he went to work as one of “the plumbers” to combat leaks in the wake of the unauthorized release of the Pentagon Papers by military analyst Daniel Ellsberg. After “the plumbers” were disbanded in early 1972, he was transferred to C.R.E.E.P (the Commitee to Re-Elect the President).

It was there that he, along with former C.I.A. operative E. Howard Hunt, organized and directed the attempt to burglarize the Democratic Party headquarters at the Watergate building. His role was later discovered and he was convicted of conspiracy, burglary, and illegal wiretapping. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but his sentence was commuted to 8 years in 1977 by President Jimmy Carter.

After serving 4 and half years, he was released in September of 1977. After leaving prison, he wrote his autobiography, went on the lecture circuit, and made appearances in several television shows including “Miami Vice.” In the early 1980s, he co-launched a private security firm. From 1992 to 2012, he hosted his own radio talk show, which was very popular. He also was a frequent guest contributor to the Fox News Channel.
