Erich Coufal Kieswetter was an Austrian architect and academic living in Mexico since 1950.

He is one of the seven European architects who came to Guadalajara in the 1950s to found the School of Architecture at the University of Guadalajara.

Where Was Erich Coufal Kieswetter born?

He received his architect degree from the University of Vienna around the time of World War II, where he met the Mexican architect, Ignacio Diaz Morales, who was hiring professors for the new School of Architecture at the University of Guadalajara.

His greatest work was the Teatro Experimental de Jalisco, commissioned by the former governor of Jalisco Juan Gil Preciado in the late 1950s. Among his outstanding works are the original building of the Faculty of Public Accounting of the University of Guadalajara, Casa de las Artesanias Jaliscienses, Torre Minerva and the building of the Banco Industrial de Jalisco.
