Mexican Sociologist, Researcher, Professor, Author and Academic. He specialized in sociology of work, labor relations, social science methodology, and social theory. He was a full-time research professor at the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana (UAM).
He was an emeritus researcher of the National System of Researchers (SNI) and a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He collaborated for magazines “Mexicana de Sociología,” “Estudios Sociologicos,” and “Latinoamericana de Estudios del Trabajo” in Mexico; “Sociología del Trabajo” in Spain; “Work and Occupations,” and “Current Sociology” in the United States; and “Sociologia del Lavoro” in Italy.
In 1982 he obtained the National Prize for Economics; in 1992 he received the Jesus Silva Herzog Annual Prize for Economic Research; and in 2009 he received the National Prize for Sciences and Arts in the area of history, social sciences and philosophy.

He wrote more than two hundred and fifty articles for specialized magazines, several chapters in academic books and more than fifteen books, among them are “Contribucion al estudio del estado social autoritari” (1984), “Historia de la industria electrica en Mexico” (1994), “Modelos de producción en la maquila de exportación” (2005), and “Teorías sociales y estudios del trabajo” (2007).
