Major League Baseball Player
He played the outfield position for Major League Baseball’s Cincinnati Reds from 1973 to 1977. He was signed as an amateur free agent by the Houston Astros before the 1967 season and played in the team’s farm system before he was involved in a major trade between the team and the Cincinnati Reds in 1971.
The trade would turn out to be very significant in Reds’ history as it turned them into the 1970s juggernaut “The Big Red Machine.” He played in the Reds’ farm system before being called up in 1973. He went on to play for the Reds for the next five years.
During the 1975 World Series, he played a crucial role in the third game, where he made a sacrificial bunt in the bottom of the 10th inning against the Boston Red Sox.
The bunt put César Gerónimo on third base before he would score and secure a Reds win. The Reds would go on to win the championship that year. The next year, he hit two home runs and had seven RBIs, which helped lead the team to their second World Series championship. After retiring in 1977, he returned to the Bahamas, his birthplace, and lived there until his passing.
