Abuzed Omar Dorda was a Libyan politician who was the General Secretary of the People’s Committee (Prime Minister) of Libya from 7 October 1990 to 29 January 1994, and Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1997 to 2003. Reports of his fleeing to Tunisia in 2011 were rumours confirmed by his interview on national Libyan TV evident by his imprisonment later that year in September.
He served as the General Secretary of the People’s Committee (Prime Minister) of Libya from October 7, 1990 to January 29, 1994. In 1970, he entered the political scene by becoming governor of the Misrata district and served in this position until 1972.
He went on to serve in various government positions until 1990, when he became prime minister. He served as prime minister for almost four years before stepping down in early 1994. From 1997 to 2003, he served as Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. In 2009, he served as the head of the national intelligence service. During the Libyan civil war in 2011, he was arrested and detained for the next eight years before going to Tunisia in 2019
