American football player
Professional Football Player. He played the offensive guard position for both the National Football League’s Houston Oilers and San Diego Chargers from 1970 to 1984.
He played football collegiately at North Carolina Central University before being drafted by the Houston Oilers in the first round of the 1970 NFL Draft. He played one season with the Oilers before being dealt to the San Diego Chargers in 1971. He went on to become a mainstay on the Chargers’ offensive line that propelled their famed “Air Coryell” offense of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

He played for the Chargers until retiring after the 1984 season. While with the Chargers, he was a first-team All-Pro in 1982 and was selected to three Pro Bowls. In 1987, he played for the Graz Giants of the Austrian Football League. He was later honored by the Chargers with both induction into the team’s Hall of Fame and naming to their 40th and 50th Anniversary teams.
