He played the wide receiver position for the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers from 1966 to 1973. He played football collegiately at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA).

In the 1966 NFL Draft, he was drafted in the 8th round by the San Francisco 49ers and went on to play for the Niners for the next eight seasons. He backed up receivers Dave Parks and Bernie Casey during his rookie season, but became a starter after Casey was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 1967.

During his eight seasons with the Niners, he appeared in 109 games with 59 starts and had 172 receptions for 2,359 yards and 14 touchdowns. His best season was his second season when he made 46 receptions for 705 yards and three touchdowns in 1967.

He also played in five postseason games with the Niners, catching 10 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns. After the 1973 season, he signed with the World Football League’s Southern California Sun for their 1974 season, but after a few games, decided to retire from professional football.
