Jazz Musican
Curtis DuBois Fuller was an American jazz trombonist. he will be remembered for his tenure with “Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers” (1961 to 1978).
He spent much of his childhood in an orphanage, his interest in jazz music was sparked when a nun took him to a concert where trombonist J.J. Johnson was performing.
This led to his learning the instrument and during his service with the United States Army, he performed in the band along with Cannonball Adderley. Following his discharge, he began what was to be an extensive and busy career as a sideman who recorded initially in 1957 with Yusef Lateef, John Coltrane and Benny Golson, while simultaneously leading his own sensible beginning with the album “New Trombone” (1957).
