He played the cornerback position for three different National Football League teams (Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, and Los Angeles Rams) from 1962 to 1968. He played football collegiately at both the Universities of Colorado and Southern California.
In 1962, he was drafted by both the National Football League’s Washington Redskins and the American Football League’s Buffalo Bills in their respective drafts. He went on to play for the Redskins for the next two seasons and during his rookie year of 1962, he had six interceptions.
in 1964, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles and played for them for the 1964 and 1965 seasons. He went on to the Los Angeles Rams and played for the Rams from 1966 to 1968.
While with the Rams, he was perhaps best known for returning a blocked punt to the 5 yard line during the 1967 Rams – Packers game, setting up the game-winning last minute touchdown that kept the Rams in contention for the Coastal Division title that year.
He retired after the 1968 season. His NFL career statistics included 10 interceptions, 5 fumble recoveries, and 1 touchdown. He passed away from Covid-19.
