Charles Greene was an American track and field sprinter and winner of the gold medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1968 Summer Olympics.
During his collegiate years at the University of Nebraska, he competed for the 1964 Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo, however he placed sixth due to a leg muscle injury.
Charles Greene Short Bio
Over the next four-years, he was a two-time AAU champion as he won the 100-yard event in 1966 and the 100-yard event in 1968 which resulted in a world record. He also won the NCAA Title in 100-yards twice (1965 and 1967) while tying the world record of 9.1 At the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City, Greene was part of the American relay team which captured the gold medal in the 4×100 meter event, as they set a world record of 38.19. Additionally, he received a bronze medal in the 100-yard event.
Following his Olympic career, he served with the United States Army at West Point as a sprinting coach and later was the director at Special Olympics International. He went on to become a sprinter coach at the high school level in Nebraska.
