For five seasons (1969 to 1973), he was an outfielder with the Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Oakland Athletics.
Born William Michael Conigliaro, he made his initial impact on the baseball diamond during his years at Swampscott High School in Massachusetts. Signed as an amateur free agent by the Boston Red Sox in 1965, he made his Major League debut on April 11, 1969. In 1970, he produced career highs with 108 hits and 18 home runs.
He experienced a world championship with the 1973 Oakland Athletics and recorded 3 at bats during the 1973 World Series against the New York Mets. In 347 career regular season games, he compiled 289 hits, with a .256 lifetime batting average. He was the younger brother of Major League Baseball player Tony Conigliaro.
