Actor. Born Harry Bernard Cross, he will best be remembered for his role in the 1981 Oscar-winning drama ‘Chariots of Fire.’ He began acting at a young age, participating in grammar school productions, but left school to work as a window cleaner, waiter and carpenter. After enrolling and graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, he made the move from stage to screen in 1977’s ‘A Bridge Too Far’ alongside Sean Connery and Michael Caine.

That same year, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and gained fame playing Billy Flynn in ‘Chicago,’ which led to a leading role of Harold Abrahams in ‘Chariots of Fire,’ the story of British athletes at the 1924 Olympics. Over the next three decades, he would appear in several films, including ‘The Assisi Underground’ (1985), ‘Paperhouse’ (1988), ‘Eye of the Widow’ (1991), ‘First Knight’ (1995), ‘Turbulence’ (1997), ‘The Order'(2001), ‘Exorcist: The Beginning’ (2004),

On television, among shows and made-for-TV movies he appeared in were ‘Great Expectations,’ ‘Strangers,’ ‘The Citadel,’ ‘Twilight Zone,’ ‘Twist of Fate,’ ‘Dark Shadows,’ ‘Tales From the Crypt,’ ‘Hellfire,’ ‘The Potato Factory,’ ‘Hannibal,’ ‘Ben Hur,’ ‘Banshee’ and ‘Pandora.’ At the time of his death, Cross had a number of projects yet to be released, including ‘Last Letter to Your Lover’ with Shailene Woodley and Felicity Jones and supernatural horror ‘The Devil’s Light’ with Virginia Madsen.
