Actress. She will be remembered for association with horror films of the 1950s and 1960s notably Hammer Productions which earned her the moniker “First leading lady of British horror films.”
Born Barbara Kowin, she worked as a model prior to beginning her film career in Italy. Her first memorable feature in Britain was her starring role in “Cat Girl” (1957) which was following with notable performances in “The Camp on Blood Island” (1958) , “Blood of the Vampire” (1958), “Quatermass and the Pit” (1967).

She played George Sanders’ wife in the classic picture “Village of the Damned” (1960) and costarred opposite Christopher Lee in “Dracula: Prince of Darkness” (1966) and “Rasputin: The Mad Monk” (1966), as well as Peter Cushing in “The Gorgon” (1964).
