Alvin Ing Singer Singer and Actor (1932-2021)
He was best known to theatrical stage fans for his many on and off-Broadway portrayals of Wang Ta, the eldest son who falls in love with Mei Li in the hit play “Flower Drum Song” through the years. He studied music at the University of Hawaii and at Columbia University in New York City.
After graduating, he landed various roles in off -Broadway shows and touring productions before making his Broadway debut in the 1976 original production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Pacific Overtures.”
Besides Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Flower Drum Song,” he went on to perform in numerous off- and on-Broadway theatrical productions throughout his career. In 1971, he made his “big screen” debut in the film “Made for Each Other.”
He went on to appear in such films as “The Final Countdown,” (1980) “Stir Crazy,” (1980) “Moving Violations,” (1985) “Troop Beverly Hills,” (1989) “The Gambler,” (2014) and “Bad Detectives.” (2021) Three years later, he made his television debut in the series “The Doctors.”
His later television credits would include “Quincy M.E.,” “Fantasy Island,” “Falcon Crest,” “Hunter,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
